The original home and mobile battery bank video by Steven Harris, four and a half hours and total length, it is the ultimate DIY. Give me your hand I’m gonna take you step by step through this. You don’t know anything about electricity don’t know anything about batteries. I show you everything even which way the lock washers and the nut go on to put the cable on the inverter. I show you everything and high definition 10 at high quality step by step and the first thing is selecting the right battery for you. I explain what is a standard lead acid battery, what is the deep cycle battery? What is the starting battery? What is a flooded battery like a golf cart battery and what is an AGM battery also what a sealed battery as I go over all of these because you’re not you’re you you’re not me, you might want an AGM battery, which is the top of the line battery, which has no fluids because maybe you have children and you don’t want them to be able to get near the acid no matter what they do and how curious they are. Maybe you want to put the battery upside down glued to the ceiling because an AGM was designed for a fighter jet so they can operate in any orientation. Maybe you just want to standard golf cart batteries which are about the best batteries for the money and they work absolutely fabulous. I explained advantages but I guarantee you this number one thing you’re going to do when the power fails and you’re going to go and turn on your battery bank if it’s not already on, mine is always on I show you how to keep it on all the time how to keep the proper charger don’t say trickle charger. Nothing kills a battery faster than a damn trickle charger. Your I cannot tell you how bad they are you are going to use a three stage computer controlled automatic battery charger that will charge it I tell you what the three stages are a battery charging arm, I show you exactly how to set up a home battery bank starting with one battery from Walmart from Tractor Supply Store from Home Depot, what one battery, how do you start? And how do you know which battery to get it once you go through you go oh, that’s obvious, Steve, I want that one right there. You can start off with a battery for as little as 6979 $89. And you don’t even need an inverter, you can run most of your stuff off a DC I show you how to do this. If you want to add a $20 pocket inverter, you now have AC Well congratulations. Now you can run your TV, you can plug in any regular light, you can do anything that you want, you’re limited to 120 150 180 Watts, but you can do that. You want to plug a bigger inverter on you can do that. Do you want to recharge it off of your car, I show you how to do that with jumper cables I show you know how to do that with the inverter in your car going into the house and going to your charger that you normally plug in the wall to charge your battery banks with Do you want a mobile battery bank, I’ll show you how to put them into a tool chest in the back of your vehicle the back of your pickup truck. So it charges off the vehicle all the time as you’re driving down the road. And you always got full batteries in the back of it. So you got power anytime and everywhere you go.
It’s only taken forward like 10 years to duplicate what I’ve done and put it into their vehicles. probably help you. I cannot tell you the number of people that have told me I knew nothing about electricity. And you made it easy, Steve, I have hundreds and hundreds of photos sent to me over the years of people who have taken what I showed them. And they made it their own. They built them into tool chest into carts. They put them on shelves like i did i they built them into the wall, but they put them on the wagon and they did everything you could possibly imagine with it that I could never imagine and they just made it so much better.
So the point is, I enable you I don’t this my way is not the only way because I teach you the principles and the fundamentals as I’m showing you the examples in the demonstrations. And you go oh well I want it this way. And then you do it. I want it underneath my stairs. I want it in the basement. I want
In the attic, you know, you people go, Steve shall leave my batteries in the base in the basement. Steve, should I leave my batteries in the garage? Steve shall put my batteries in the crawlspace. Steve, gotta leave my batteries outside. Yeah, that is an option. You know what the Harris rule? I got lots of Harris rules all through the whole thing. And the Harris rule for your battery is treat your batteries better than you would your dog? Would you leave your dog in the garage all day? And Phoenix in July when it’s 110 degrees? No, you wouldn’t don’t leave your batteries there. Would you put your dog outside? You know, in the garage when it’s minus 15? No, you wouldn’t? Well, most people wouldn’t.
When I grew up, my dog slept outside. And she had a dog house and the kennel and everything and had lots of cedar shavings and straw there for her. So no, you generally wouldn’t do that. So don’t put your batteries out there. So treat your batteries better than you would your dog, which means you want to keep them warm and cool. Doesn’t mean you have to I tell you what happens when they get hot and they get cold. And you go, Okay, I understand. I’m gonna put them in the garage anyway, it’s it’s only hot for two months, fine. You know what’s going to happen? Because I taught you, you know what’s going to happen to your batteries in the back of the vehicle when it’s zero degrees outside exactly how much less capacity they have.
And everything else. Yes, there is some stuff in there on lithium, but really not a lot. Because the more obtainable rechargeable battery for everyone who wants to do this is lead acid still, in this year, even a lithium is out there and everywhere. It’s still lead acid, one of the reasons you would go lithium, and you can apply everything I’m showing you in here to lithium is as well.
The number one reason you would ever go with a battery pack that’s lithium is because it doesn’t have more energy volume per volume, cubic foot per cubic foot, lithium, lithium iron phosphate or whichever version you want to talk about. It’s about the same as a lead acid, it’s got about the same amount of watt hours per square foot as a lead acid and lithium. But the lithium is 1/3. Yeah, 1/3. The weights of the battery weighs lead acid weighs 100 pound, the lithium weighs literally 33 pounds, literally. Lithium has a lot better cycle life and everything else. But you know what, this is an emergency battery. This is not a battery that you’re using every day. This is a battery you’re not cycling up and down, up and down like you are on a sailboat. So this is the first step in is this for you because it’s obtainable. You can go down to Walmart right now and get this battery right now a world record low prices, lithium is going to be four to five times the initial cost. So do you want to spend $100? Or do you want spend $500 for the same amount of energy? Well, if you’re going to carry the darn thing on your back, well, it’s obviously going to be lithium, if it’s going to be in your basement or in your house, it’s obviously going to be lead us and it’s going to be in your vehicle. It’s obviously going to be lead acid.
So I go over the advantages and disadvantages but no matter what if, even if you want to get into solar, yes, I cover solar in the series. There’s the addendum to this. I cover solar briefly in this series, because it’s not a dominant thing. Well, Steve, why don’t you have solar energy in the main battery bank cards? Because you can’t depend upon it? Would you buy a gun? That only works when the when it’s sunny. Sun’s out? What do you buy a gun for defense? Oh, it works when it’s sunny. Doesn’t work at night doesn’t work when it’s cloudy doesn’t work out. It’s raining. We’ll do some work a little bit when there’s so when it’s cloudy now it doesn’t.
Really it doesn’t work. Well. It’s like 1/10 There’s no Steve. Yeah, okay, fine. Instead of shooting you with a 45 caliber ball. I’m gonna shoot you with a 4.5 caliber bullet. I think that’s acceptable. For your defense. Maybe it’s going 15,000 feet per second, but it’s not No, it’s not acceptable. They’re called solar panels, not cloud panels, not rain panels, not moonlight panels, not darkness panels, or no nighttime panels are called solar panels. So since this, I mean when Hurricane Sandy came across Superstorm Sandy, it covered up our area Pennsylvania and we were in the Pittsburgh area 11 days solid clouds 11 days of no sunshine because of stalled over Pennsylvania. You’re not guaranteed sunshine, okay. You when you need something, you need to be able to use it now. You need to be able to use this at 2am 3am. You need power now when it’s raining was cloudy when it’s snowing. When it’s dark weather you need the power now and that means you need the power from your car. You need the power from the battery bank in your house. It needs to be
It will recharge it by other methods. And every other method that I show you in here, whether it be generator, whether it be vehicle, whether it be a squirrel on a hamster wheel, I show you how to do it explicitly. And you have power now. Now going, Daddy, when can we watch the DVD again? I’m sorry, we gotta wait until we gotta wait for the clouds to go away, son. No, sorry, that’s not acceptable. But solar is a valuable option. And I go over the advantages and disadvantages of it. So you can make an intelligent decision on it? And what level you want? How many watts? How fast? You know, what is it four is a dominant is a supplemental? Is it saving you on fuel? What is your principal? Are you in the city? Are you not in the city? Are you suburban or your rural? put it on their phone. Or they watch it online on their phone, and they just listen to it as they drive. And then they go, Oh, I Oh, that was interesting. And then when they were going home, they’ll go back to one hour and 15 minutes into the first video and they’ll see what I was showing that they were listening to us they were driving. So you can die just the so, so many ways. I mean, I can’t tell you, the number of people have told me that they’ve listened to the whole thing or watch it four or five times, just so they could go back and absorb what I was trying to show. It’s not that I wasn’t doing it too slow, because then it’d be a nine hour video. I do it at the right amount of speed. But they want to go back and see me do it step by step and sometimes follow along with me as I’m doing it as like, I got the Steve Yep, you showed me how to do it. It was so easy.

I’m not really going to there a lot of solar in this little audio file, because the solar addition is below this one and there’ll be an audio file telling you all about the wonderful solar stuff. He got to see some of the solar stuff, but it is not conventional. You will not see the things I did on YouTube. There are things I’m doing in there that you will not see you’re gonna go That’s smart. And I am not a guy who makes stupid dumb 30 minute YouTube videos that basically tell you one thing and nothing else. I show you everything. I make epic videos that are many hours in length that are so crammed full of knowledge and likes like I don’t just want to teach you I want to enable you. I don’t say just get like let’s say the Black and Decker 25 amp charger. Okay, I say you can find the Black and Decker also labeled a Stanley and resold by Stanley, you know a there’s a 15 amp a 25 amp version of it. And they’re generally between 50 and $80 each depending you can find the 15 amp at Home Depot, you can find the 25 and the 15 on Amazon sometimes as cheap as 50 some bucks sometimes it’s $89 depending upon the time of the year, their stock and availability. So I only not I tell you what is out there. I tell you what versions of it are out there. Like I said, there’s also at home people there’s the DeWalt 30 amp battery charger. You can find it at Lowe’s, you can find it online. I give you the different names the different brands so Schumacher is what I started with when I made the video. There were
The only mass manufactured affordable three stage computer chart computer controlled battery charger on the market at the time. Well now we have a lot more, my favorite vector was not being made at the time I made the original video, which I was using all the many decades before I made this video that gave me all the experience to make the video. So I go through it, I give you the updates, I give you editions, I keep your current and I say I when I tell you the model number, the size and where to get it. That means you’re enabled.
